Student Audience:
The students enrolled in this class should have a familiarity with general Macintosh procedures as well as experience with Adobe Photoshop. Students taking online courses should be prepared to work in a disciplined self-paced manner. Students should be prepared to attend the weekly lab session to supplement their independent work. Additional non-instructed or open lab hours are offered on campus.
Resources: ACC Libraries subscribe to a number of monthly periodicals that deal strictly with the graphic arts. In addition, they have a stock photo file that can be checked out for reference.
Instructional Methodology:
Students will be held accountable for all information exchange. Materials will be available to students in the classroom and through the Blackboard course. Student will have material presented to them in weekly lectures and they will receive ample time in class to work on all required exercises. Students must interact with the instructor in order for the instructor to fully gauge the students grasp of presented material and to fully evaluate the student’ progress.
Online class: The online course is unlike most courses taught in the VisCom department, which are structured around a significant number of lab hours (about 5 hours in the classroom per week). These are known as contact hours, and there are 96 contact hours in a 16 week (or 11 week summer) semester. It is critical for students enrolled in online courses to recognize that successful completion of an online course requires a self-imposed discipline to complete assignments, and participate in online course activities, such as interaction with the instructor and fellow students. All of this interaction is designed to take place online through file sharing and discussion forums. In these forums, helpful information is given via lecture notes (reading assignments) and through informal discussion that arises as various students raise concerns and ask questions while problem solving during projects.
Course Objectives:
The student will develop a basic understanding of 1) how the Internet functions 2) The processes and components used in web design and development 3) Programming techniques, and software tools used in web development..
